My First Blog! (Exploring Critically Thinking in My Own Words)

I believe that every person, in some point of their day, is faced to think critically about something. Thinking critically could involve many things like making an important decision and what you feel about certain things. In order to critically think about something I feel you need to observe or experience the situation and apply your knowledge to best identify what it is you observed or experienced. I think analyzing things is an important part in thinking critically about anything.

My habits are reflected when it comes to reading and thinking critically about something. When it comes to my life, I feel when I think critically about things it is easier than when I read books or other sorts of writings. When analyzing books or other writings I usually end up doubting myself saying “That’s probably wrong”. I am never confident in whether or not I truly get the concept or the underlying ideas of a book or any kind of writing. Hopefully this class will help me think critically and better analyze concepts of writings and writing itself.

I analyze things all the time. When I mean analyze I mean like I will be in class and looking around the room and notice a tear in the wall paper or something. Little things like that are what I always analyze but I do analyze important stuff too :). One important thing I analyze is the media. We are constantly surrounded by the media. I think many people analyze the media, and if they don’t, they probably already understand the negative effects (as it is overly obvious) it has on people in the world. The media has distorted many ideas about how life should be. One big example is the notion of being thin. Being thin has been set into the mind of the people through the media which has led to girls being overly self conscious about their bodies. Women constantly dieting and developing eating disorders just to fit this misconceived notion. I believe it is important to also analyze your academic work. It is a crucial part (I think) in the learning process. Being able to understand and interpret your assignments helps complete them correctly and to the best of your ability. Another important aspect of life that should be analyzed is your professional endeavors. In order to be successful I believe knowing a lot about your career and where you want it to take you in life is crucial.

Hopefully this class can put me in the right path of how to think critically and analyze in many situations whether it is in my life or academically. Just being able to think critically about situations and applying those skills to my writings and personal life would be an achievement coming out of the class. In the process of all this I am not sure how my views will be about the world, hopefully they change to better understand it, but once I find out I will blog about it!
